At Airborne Clean Energy South Africa, our mission is not merely to create emissions-free energy from coal: we’re motivated every day by the sustainable legacy we will create.
Our establishment was driven by the desire to solve air pollution in industry, particularly in coal-burning sectors. It is our belief that coal can produce clean energy and therefore be saved, jobs can be saved, coal-belt communities can be sustained, and technologies and skills can be homegrown.
Airborne South Africa, which is 35% Black-owned and boasts a highly experienced engineering and project management team, has acquired the technology rights from Airborne International to implement solutions on the African continent.
What we do
We provide a unique solution to the conundrum of coal-fired power generation: how to make it not just environmentally friendly, but a clean and sustainable energy resource that is more profitable than before.
Our suite of proven, cost-effective clean coal technologies converts existing coal-fired power stations into environmentally responsible, reliable and profitable facilities.
The Airborne System
Our system combines several technologies: our eco-friendly, proprietary Advanced Burning Catalyst promotes cleaner, more efficient coal combustion; our recyclable sodium scrubber cleans flue gas of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulphur oxide (SOx) pollutants, particulate matter and mercury, and allows for the production of nitrate- and sulphate-based fertilisers; and our carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration method supports secondary, geothermal energy production and carbon credit income.
